They may of had to wait for swelling to go down some.
Or he could have decided to wait till after the holidays. 3 extra weeks will not mean much in the recovery/rehab process.

Like the others said, they often have to wait for swelling in the knee to go away before they can operate. IIRC, they had to wait almost 2 weeks for my little brother's first ACL surgery for swelling, and somewhere between 10-14 days for his second one this past summer

Generally it is bad to push these back even because of swelling. Top tier atheletes usually go under the knife ASAP. The swelling can be managed, uts the scar tissue that forms when you're waiting that can cause issues and delay recovery.
I'm sure they are doing the right thing but september is looking like a long shot at this point in time.
Chandler is a 6-7 dude with a lot more weight to bear on that rebuilt ligament, he is not going to recover like the physical freak of nature that is adrian peterson.
I would say finding a pass catching te just got even more important for 2013.
