It's not the team who is best on paper who always wins, it's the team that was best on the field that day -- that's why they play the game.

Yes. Because of the single elimination format , sometimes anything can happen . It's a pity football can never have a series format like baseball , basketball, hockey . It makes it less likely that there are upsets since the more talented team tends to emerge victorious in those series .
