A fair assessment, I think.

Yup, definitely fair. We should be bottom of the pile until we prove otherwise.

Exactly, and I hope that begins on September 8th.

This is a totally new Bills team.  No one really knows what we have yet.  Frankly I always prefer the Bills to be overlooked and underestimated.

Bottom 10 would make more sense than bottom 5 to me...the Bills are usually right around 22-24th in the league in win percentage; it's very rare that they're higher or lower than that in the last 10 years.

I think a big part of it is that we are going in with a very unproven coach (on paper, at least), a "vet" QB that couldn't keep a starting job anywhere and a rookie QB that all the "experts" were low on.

Is it accurate? We'll find out.

Bazinga!  Actually the Bills were being touted as a playoff team last year, or does that stuff not get past your filter?

Why does it matter how the Bills are touted?  I will never understand this...

I'm with you. They are new but I think that they are better than: Jets, Jags, Raiders, Chargers, Cards, Browns, Eagles, Titans and maybe Chiefs/Panthers

Probably not as fun as it is for you tearing down fans who dare to be optimistic about a team that love. :)

PTR has season tickets and lives in New Hampshire. He's what is right about this franchise so if he wants to be excited about the team, he has more than earned that right.

Some people apparently want to brag about them like Cowboys and Patriots fans do about their own team. That's my theory, at least.

I have said it on here before but perception is important when it comes to recruiting free agents. Obviously, this time of year that is not as big of a deal but it plays a role when improving your team.  Players look at things like facilities (the fieldhouse is one of the best), quality of life, how they are treated and viewed in the community, tax implications and most importantly the opportunity to win.  Pro sports have become more and more like college sports in that you need to recruit.  You need to recruit players that fit your system and need to be able to get them at the right price.  Thats how winning teams are built.  The only way that losing teams and losing cultures attract players is by drafting them or overpaying.  Winning teams draft well but they also plug holes at the right price.  Perception does play a role.

You missed the point.  He is saying that he always prefers that the Bills be overlooked and underestimated.  I don't understand how that contributes to rooting for a team, or why it's exciting.

And no one scolds other Bills fans like PTR.

Than why would anyone prefer that they be perceived poorly?

Very little about winning has to do with free agents.  It's about having a great QB, drafting well, and having a great QB.

Really? Really? All things being equal free agents will go to a winning program.  If a veteran free agent was going to get offered 4 years and $36M from the Titans or 4 years and $32M from SF (same guarantees) where are they going to sign?  (Think guys like Charles Woodson)  Winning teams usually have good QB play.

This is patently wrong.  Free agents often go to teams without being a winning program.  Of course they would always sign with the better team if the money is the same, but that's just it, it usually isn't.

I don't get what you're disagreeing with when you say "Winning teams usually have good QB play."?

I agree with this. That's why I think if the Bills could just do whatever it takes this year to win 8 games it could play huge dividends in next year's free agent grab.  If players think you're going somewhere and the money is good, they'll go with you instead of another team that they think may be going nowhere.  Of course big money talks as we well know.  But, if the Bills put out EJ there before he is ready, or for example and he struggles and we go 4-12, it's gonna make it tougher to get over the hump.

yes, this is a fan site.   the facts scream that this team will get killed this year while it starts over (again), but, hey,  this is a fan site (fan = fanatic) and after all,  this is the high point of every season, so everyone on board !!   EJ to CJ to TJ...
