Horrible. We are watching democracy in Venezuela, Turkey, and Eastern Europe crumble. Not a good sign.
State security agents reportedly took two of Venezuelas opposition leaders from their homes in the middle of the night Tuesday, in the aftermath of a widely condemned vote granting President Nicolàs Maduro nearly unlimited powers. A video appeared to show opposition leader and former Caracas Mayor Antonio Ledezma being taken from his home while a woman screamed for help. Theyre taking Ledezma! she says. Its a dictatorship! Another opposition leader, Leopoldo Lopez, was apparently dragged from his home after midnight by security forces, in a video shared by Lopezs wife. Theyve just taken Leopoldo from the house, Lilian Tintori posted on Twitter. We dont know where he is or where theyre taking him. Both of the men had recently posted videos online criticizing Màduro, according to the Associated Press.http://www.thedailyb...rom-their-homes

Venezuela under Chavez, was a democracy? Bridge for sale in Brooklyn.

The first time.  What happened after that?

I love how the NYT calls commies democracies.  It is full on loony tunes.

Oil reserves in Venezuela. The proven oil reserves in Venezuela are recognized as the largest in the world, totaling 297 billion barrels (4.72×1010 m3) as of 1 January 2014.

I could see China stepping in to save there economy in exchange for oil

Great, in a world where democracy is under attack the US is basically saying "so what." Trump calling to congratulate the thugin Turkey for winning more power is right in line with this.

https://www.washingt...m=.10648c112b63
"Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has ordered his department to redefine its mission and issue a new statement of purpose to the world. The draft statements under review right now are similar to the old mission statement, except for one thing any mention of promoting democracy is being eliminated.

According to an internal email that went out Friday, which I obtained, the State Departments Executive Steering Committee convened a meeting of leaders to draft new statements on the departments purpose, mission and ambition, as part of the overall reorganization of the State Department and USAID. (The draft statements were being circulated for comment Friday and could change before being finalized.)"

I love the hypocrisy of that article. When we intervene in the Middle East to spread democracy, the Post howls about it. When we take that out of the mission statement, the post howls about it.

Why would China, or anyone else for that matter, be willing to pay the price for oil that Venezuela needs to keep its country afloat when that would more than double the cost of a barrel of oil on the market today?

They already tried. Venezuela has a huge debt to China from past obligations, and China has stated it would no longer support a gov even it knows is an abject failure.

They're trying to enforce migrant quotas on those countries who want no part of the migrant problem

Hardly democratic.
