You would think that with such an in-demand football genius, those teams would be more "privy"

No success in 7 years in a high up role/gm
+
Feuding with 2 head coaches
+
Catastrophic cap decisions
+
Trading up in the draft with awful results
+
A media liability
=
Imo he doesnt sniff a gm position

Maybe he gets on somewhere as a pro scouting director and can figure things out and work his way to gm someday.

At least sabres fans realize tim murray was a disaster

"Right now, it's a short-term deal," Whaley told Sports Business Daily. "It's something to keep me busy....

So you hire a new guy and he tells the press it is just a short term thing to keep him busy til he finds something better. Same old Dougy! :)

I guess I was a bit harsh,.... but if he is holding out for a GM position, he is going to be holding out forever.

If I were an owner/team, I probably wouldn't even get to the point of considering interviewing him for a GM job.

I think the Bills' structure is going to be the most prevalent.  Basically a quasi gm-powerful coach with a number crunching grocery-getter GM who also can serve as a grease-man in front of the mic when needed.  Whatever blame you lay at Whaley's feet, or not, the team was a dysfunctional mess under him, from the public fights with Marrone to Marrone quitting, to all the leaking, to his and Lynn's bizarre press conferences...

Whaley can/will be a scouting or pro-scouting director somewhere.

Good for Doug. Wish him the best.

i agree with this. he always struck me as a good guy that loved to scout, loved to just watch football. but he was so incredibly uncomfortable when talking to people. wish him nothing but the best.

Doug is probably making some good side money. I'll put money on him getting a front office job by next year. He's not close to as bad as some of you want him to be. And this team wasn't as broken as Beane will lead you to believe.

This just goes to show you that once you reach the top of your profession, there isn't anywhere else to go....but down.  I'm actually amazed that he hasn't gotten back into things in a lesser role with another NFL or College program.

He doesn't have to.  He's still getting paid.

My thoughts exactly. Perhaps this company is actually developing android technology that will erase the human element in the game by 2037. Or it's a front for porn.

And in 2038 the Pats* will be caught cheating by hacking the android refs to throw more flags at their opponent. When asked about it, Belicheck v4.5 will mumble something about there being no rules against it in the ANFL rule book. (Android National Football League)

Re: sensor technology, has anyone wondered why the footballs, pylons, and heck even yard lines on the field don't have chips in them so we can accurately map where the ball traveled? Would never have to second guess where the refs place the ball.

Good point and I have to believe it's been discussed. I think some sports like to leave a little human error for whatever reason.

Let's do it. Administrative assistant jobs don't count.

I have no sympathy for Whaley and pretty sure he's still going to be collecting money from the Pegula's for a while just like Rex Ryan.

They Buddy Nix/Whaley regime were certainly the worst of the 17 year drought and truly put this team in a tough spot even for the next few years as Beane and the new front office will still be cleaning up the mess with some of these bad deals and contacts.

No doubt they were beyond brutal, but I still have to give the nod to the GM Marv era.
