This will be a nice change. They are still in beta right now, but I expect this will happen before Thanksgiving.

Beta yikes, hope it goes smoothly.
Will we have to redo our profiles or will that be uploaded?

Why the switch anyway, this site seems to work well?

This version of the board is ancient and is no longer being supported. I don't want to continue using their software because I don't like the direction they're going.

Is there way to go to the old way the forum was set up. Remember how the view was "threaded" and you could reply and topics could go down so many different sidebars. If you wanted to stay on the "main road"/topic of the tread, you could. Or if you wanted to wander off into a threaded abyss /blush. It seemed people weren't as bent on keeping such good order, they could just avoid, ignore the sidebars that they thought were pitfalls. Everything wasn't view so lineal, unless you wanted it to be. ;-)

The Road Not Taken
~ By: ROBERT FROST

"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

If I were able to keep my online post count over the decades I'd have well over 100,000 posts.

I think I have 40K alone on the D&C forum pages.

Thank god, I bought Xenforo 4 years ago for my Minecraft server that is no longer with us, and it's the best forum system ever. One of the reasons I only have 3 or 4 posts here despite being registered for half a year is that I don't like how the forum performs in Safari (very choppy) on my MacBook Pro, and jumping to new posts can be a pita. It always feels like a chore to scroll, and that alone keeps me from coming back even though I want to. The old Bills forum wasn't heavy in the backend, so if I just wanted to see game updates I just refreshed the page and they would come up.

And on the iPhone the mobile version is a little bit trimmed of features.

Front page is probably tomorrow night. I hit a few snags tonight and I'd like to start with a fresh database.

good choice SDS. Beta? no. perhaps the latest version is beta but you can always start with a stable version and upgrade when this latest version becomes stable. xenForo has been around for quite some time now. i have been following them and Kier since they broke off from vBulletin. I actually have been using their software since it's first version came out. It is nice to have something that the developers actually have an idea of how real world coding should be done. the back end is a pleasure to work in, i think you will like it as will the rest of the community. the PM system is great, works like a private thread.

Given the latest features in IPS 4.2, I'm more likely to stick with them for the moment. It's an easier upgrade in the short term and I can monitor XF future development.

I haven't looked to see who your host is (they should be able to migrate you if they are worth their salt), but xF has many migration tools which should make the migration a no brainer when you decide to do so.
